Other Resources:
Access to some of these resources is limited to Cal U patrons, while others are free Web sites available to anyone.

American Rhetoric
Access numerous famous speeches--as transcribed full-text, the actual recordings, or recorded reenactments. A useful section called "Rhetorical Figures in Sound" illustrates many figures of speech. Think you know rhetoric? Take the "Rhetoric Quiz!"

"The Factbook is a comprehensive resource of facts and statistics on more than 250 countries and other entities." A good source for demographic, political, and economic information from the Central Intelligence Agency.

Countries: Background Notes

Encyclopaedia Britannica Online
The online, full-text version of the highly respected Encyclopedia Britannica.

Print Resources
Some print indexes cover older articles than online indexes, and may focus on specific topics.

Quotations: Bartlett's Familiar Quotations
Coverage: 10th edition, published 1919
Although this free, online version is from a very old edition, it is still useful for finding older, classic quotations.

Symbols.com: Online Encyclopedia of Western Signs and Ideograms
Use a graphical or textual search to find information concerning more than 2,500 symbols. Although the site refers to some material found only in the printed version of the encyclopedia, this free resource is still useful in identifying the meaning and history of many symbols (e.g., ankh, dagger, pentagram, zodiac).

World Almanac & Book of Facts
Librarians consider this a treasure trove of information on just about everything! Use this link to search the content in LexisNexis Academic. (LexisNexis)
