"American Memory is a gateway to rich primary source materials relating to the history and culture of the United States. The site offers more than 7 million digital items from more than 100 historical collections."


Center for Defense Information  
The Center for Defense Information is a private, nongovernmental, research organization. This site provides statistics, an "Arms Trade Database," online access to the Weekly Defense Monitor and The Defense Monitor, and other defense-related resources.


Center for Responsive Politics: Opensecrets.org  
"The Center for Responsive Politics is a non-partisan, non-profit research group based in Washington, D.C. that tracks money in politics, and its effect on elections and public policy."


CIA World Factbook  
"The Factbook is a comprehensive resource of facts and statistics on more than 250 countries and other entities." A good source for demographic, political, and economic information from the Central Intelligence Agency.


Countries: Background Notes  
Facts about the land, people, history, government, political conditions, economy, and foreign relations for countries and areas of the world. From the U.S. Dept. of State.

Still a work in progress, the IEU is hosted by the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta. It hopes to become the most comprehensive source of information in English on Ukraine.

Library of Economics and Liberty  
This free site from the Liberty Fund provides online, full-text access to authoritative editions of the classic (i.e., older!) books in economics, along with related works in history, political theory and philosophy. It also includes many other resources useful for researching economic theory and practice.

National Security Archive  
An independent, non-governmental research institute and library located at The George Washington University. The Archive collects and publishes declassified documents acquired through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).


Pennsylvania Scrap Book Necrology  
Access to digitized PA newspaper obituaries from 1891 to 1904, covering people (mostly men) involved in or related to the Civil War, Spanish-American War, and the Boxer Rebellion. Use the search feature to find particular names.
